Silicone is used around the perimeter of your shower. Silicone is the only product on the market that is designed to have enough flexibility to cope with the structural movements of your shower walls. Grout and epoxy grout do not have any flexibility, so they can’t be used in any movement joints ie where walls meet walls and floors.
We use the highest standard silicone; however, the silicone lifespan depends on the size of wall gaps and structural movements of the house. We recommend replacing silicone every couple of years to prevent water damage. If you replace your silicone quickly, you can avoid needing a full shower regrout.
Signs that your Silicone Needs Replacing
- Mould building on the silicone
- Discoloured grout near the silicone
- Spot of mould on your grout
If the silicone is not replaced in adequate time then a full regrout of walls will need to be done.
